Transfer Pricing Guide

What

The Transfer Pricing Guide produced by the Large Taxpayer's Office of the Finnish Tax Administration is a compact overview in Finnish, aimed at internationalising Finnish companies to help them understand issues related to transfer pricing. The Tax Administration guide, now produced for the first time, is based on the OECD Transfer Pricing Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises and Tax Administrations, applied in OECD member countries.

Benefits

- An internationalising company obtains assistance from the guide for transfer pricing, i.e. understanding issues related to the pricing of business transactions between companies in the same group. The principles of transfer pricing are additionally explained through concrete examples by describing situations in which companies should take transfer pricing into consideration. Internal business transactions may form a significant part of the normal business activities of an internationally operating group, but transfer pricing is often regarded as a challenging aspect of internationalisation.

IPR advice, information, training and search services (patents, trademarks, designs)

What

The Finnish Patent and Registration Office (PRH) offers general advice on issues relating to patents, trademarks and designs. Companies are advised in how they can use international, regional or national search systems to ensure their intellectual property rights abroad. The PRH will assist in the selection of suitable IPR protection.

The PRH's training services include IPR seminars, training events, courses and other events, which allow companies to deepen their know-how and develop their business operations.

Advice on the use of patent, trademark and design databases is also available. The PRH's information services help companies that need information on registered IPRs – trademarks, designs, utility models and patents. The IPR information services are available online 24/7.

Companies can complement their background search with PRH's search services. PRH experts can, for example, help determine whether a technical solution developed by the company is new and patentable, follow the patenting process of the competitors, reduce the risk of patent violations, and determine the existence of patents that could hamper the commercial utilisation of the company's product.

Benefits

By surveying the possibilities and initiating protective measures before introducing its products or beginning operations in a target country, a company can avoid losing its rights, ensure its freedom to operate in the target country, and reduce the risk of violating the industrial rights of others.

The company can also determine when and what rights its competitors have applied for and registered, and in which countries or geographical regions. Companies are offered information on already developed technical solutions, registered trademarks and protected designs, and their developers and rights holders (inventors and companies).

Furthermore, companies can follow general advances in the field and find new, potential partners.
